5 out of 5 stars Awesome popcorn! Nearly the best I've ever had.   January 19, 2008

I have been extremely satisfied with this popcorn popper. It makes some of the best popcorn I have ever made at home. I would urge anyone complaining about chewy or rubbery popcorn to READ THE DIRECTIONS. There is a red lid on the bucket to use after popping, but you must take this off during popping to let steam out.
And as long as you follow the user guide, you should not have any trouble with melting parts, as it is mentioned that you should let the maker cool for just a few minutes between pops.
I have had this popper for about 4 months, with plenty of use, and so far I have not had any problems with the popper breaking in any way what so ever.

In short, use good quality kernels (I prefer Fireworks brand), read the directions, and enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Great tasting alternative to microwave popcorn   December 12, 2007

This popcorn maker is a great alternative to those unhealthily microwavable brands. You make the popcorn to your liking, with very little oil. For me I use a whole mess of salt and real melted butter...we are talking about snack food after all. The best results, though, do come from using less oil. The unit is quick and easy: oil, kernels, and switch it on, that's it. It even pops right into the serving bowl. The vents at the top help the hot air move through the popping chamber making the popcorn light fluffy. But this is no air popper; you know this is the real deal when you taste it. Another thing I found useful was the bottom lid on the severing bowl. It prevents a mess by catching the salt and crumbs that can slip through the vents. Getting the bottom plate attached is a pain but it's a one time operation. Overall, this is a great value and I am quite satisfied with its performance.

I am a pocorn FANATIC... have always had mircowave popcorn, but always LOVED movie popcorn. I recently ran across this item and becoming tired of having stale tasting mircowave popcorn, I gave this a try. WOW!!! This makes the best popcorn I ever had! I read reviews, and do admit, you MUST be VERY careful when replacing the base or you two heating element pins will damage the black inserts when re attached. SLOW & STEADY is the key. I have made popcorn 7 days in row with this thing and it ROCKS!!! easy.. 2 teaspoons or so of coconut oil, your kernals, and don't forget to throw in the seasoning salt in there too in the mix (key to the salt sticking to the popcorn) and three minutes later... WOW.. the best popcorn you can have at home. It sure beats having a MAMMOTH popcorn machine in your house, that gets really dirty and smoky, which is a hassle to clean. This is a easy and nice alternative to other. Heck... for the price.. and what you get.. you cannot go wrong. REMEMBER...ingredients are the key! You will not regret this purchase! I LOVE IT!! oh... one more this I use to top it off and set the popcorn out of this world...... butter topping!!! Do some searching and you'll be making movie theater popcorn at home in no time... TRUST ME!!!!!

Gotta go... I think my popcorn is ready!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Popper   May 3, 2008

We have had our popper since Christmas 2007, and like it very much. It uses a minimum amount of oil, so we feel we can have popcorn more often. I use a half-cup of Walmart popcorn, 1 tablespoon of oil (you could probably use even less), and 1/4 teaspoon or a little more popcorn salt. This makes two medium-sized bowls of popcorn, with very few "old maids." The element, bowl and top clean up easily...we don't use a dishwasher, so it gets hand-washed. The popcorn is light and not soggy at all. We're really pleased!

5 out of 5 stars Very Nice Machine   December 5, 2009

After reading several reviews (both negative and positive) I decided to purchase this unit as it was on sale for the holidays. Perhaps I got extremely lucky (or the production qc has improved) as I have had complete success with this unit. Thus far, I've run at least 25 batches of popcorn through it with no issues whatsoever. My observations include the following:
I have used several different brands of popcorn and have found that Orville "R's" works very well. The gourmet brands for some odd reason did not provide the volume as the OR brand. I used both a red and black gourmet corn (very expensive I might add) called the Art of Spice and was extremely disappointed with the results. I'll be hitting up America's Test Kitchen or Consumer Reports to see what they recommend for popping corn. Also please note that I have experienced no unpopped kernels with this machine regardless of the type of popcorn but the machine will burn the corn if you allow it to run too long.
I will note that I popped 5 consecutive batches with no problem. I did notice that there was an aftertaste but my research indicates that this was oil related as if the unit is not cleaned prior to use the existing oil residue will burn thus creating an aftertaste. Also I will add that the motor will spin in reverse if it senses blockage.
The bucket concept is very nice but I will add that this device is not to be used by unsupervised children as it has to potential to burn the user when removing the popped corn. The ventilation works very well but there is some minor condensation on the sides but I do not think that it impacts taste or quality.
This machine will meet my needs of occasional use and I am very happy with it. Definitely 5 stars.
